A couple weeks later I still hadn't done it and was starting to feel pressure and fear. I needed to send them out two months in advance and I was running out of time and the last thing I wanted was for them to look homemade. I realized I was being a bit ambitious and decided to just go ahead and order some fairly basic but still pretty invitations/RSVPs and then embellish them myself. I spent more on them than I originally wanted to. I am such a cheap-y I had made it a goal to not spend a lot things. But I suppose for the invitations, I still got a bit of a steal and with a little bit of effort they could be pretty cool.
We set a date for an "invitation-assembly party" with about 10 of us gals. My aunt even flew into town for the occasion.
I knew what I wanted done and explained it about 50 times before everyone finally understood. Half of the ladies were scared to mess anything up so we had to put them on basic duty while the other half dove right in. Folds and ribbons and double-sided tape flew around the table. Pictures were cut to fit, stamps applied...I spent the 4 hours it took writing names and addresses because I have nice handwriting and didn't trust anyone else.
Around ten o-clock we looked around and realized that we were actually done! No one expected we would finish that night but alas, we did!
The invitations looked great! I was so excited and since my mom bought all the postage, I wasn't out too much money for such a nice product.
This was the basic invitation:
Braley designed the map
Then we added this:
We folded and taped the little envelopes, which were in purple and brown. This particular one doesn't have it but we also had thin purple ribbon around the bottom that added a nice little touch. And finally:
A wax seal was a final touch to the otherwise plain white envelopes. We went with square even though it was a little more for postage but it felt and looked nicer.
